Kaitlyn Francis
Gippslandia's Art Department has been guided by writer & artist, Kaitlyn Francis.
Gippslandia: What do you love about being based in Gippsland?
Kaitlyn Francis: I love the community that Gippsland has and the landscape! It’s very cathartic and beautiful.
Why do you support Gippslandia?
I support Gippslandia because I think Gippsland needs an alternative paper that is going to highlight the misrepresented areas and people of Gippsland. The content is beautiful and the editors are
really lovely as well.
They have brought light to some really amazing Gippsland artists which I think is something more people need to be doing!
What does a successful and supportive community look like to you?
Everyone needs to be comfortable in openly communicating when
experiencing hardships, and, conversely, people need to be open and
welcoming to those people experiencing hardships.
Actively listening and respecting people’s boundaries is another big one.
What is your favourite piece that you’ve worked on for Gippslandia?
My favourite piece for Gippslandia has definitely been ‘Nobody’s holding your hand baby x’.
A hot tip – how can visitors have the best time in our region?
Definitely hit up the Briagolong Blue Pools. It was where
indigenous women used to go for birthing ceremonies and it’s magical.
Please respect the GunaiKurnai land though!
