Welcome to Gippslandia - Issue No. 21, the First Nations edition.

Happy birthday to Gippslandia. Happy birthday to us...
This — our 21st edition — marks five years since Gippslandia's inception.
Thank you for joining us on this adventure.

But this isn’t about us.
Instead, our latest edition aims to celebrate Gippsland’s longest-living culture. Their 60,000-odd years of inhabiting this region utterly dwarfing our five years of existence – isn’t that something we should celebrate more?

Gippslandia #21 moves through three main phases: background on the Kurnai connection to Country; shifting to today’s Elders and the initiatives that they, their children and grandchildren are embarking on. Finally, we look to the future.

As Kurnai Elder Linda Mullet shares in her introduction:
The Kurnai community invites you to work together as equal partners, to help take away the struggle, stresses and grief that is in our hearts. Through these partnerships, cooperation and resources, we can all contribute to help alleviate the poverty, illness and social disadvantage that many of our families are still experiencing today.

The Kurnai community sends this message to you, so that we can all learn and move forward together, as proud Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.

The Gippslandia adventure continues.
